Coona’s Driver Reviver - Stay alive with fun Waratah Guide Leaders, Guides, their families and many community members put in hours of work making roads safer for drivers. They do this by opening the Driver Reviver stop at the Coonabarabran Tourist Information Centre for coffee, tea, cuppa soups, biscuits and a good chat during peak holiday times and long weekends.
Stop, Revive, Survive is the message and drivers need to stop 15 minutes every 2 hours. Coonabarabran’s Driver reviver coordinators, Bev Rayner & Lyn Abbott, looked at strategies to engage travellers to stay out of the car for 15 minutes and came up with an active fun solution.
Games were recently introduced and they are proving to be a popular feature of the Coonabarabran Driver Reviver stop for young and old. Hookey, quoits and bowling are engaging families and individuals in some active fun to break up the long driving trip. Some of the younger travellers have not played these classic games before so it has been interesting hearing the conversations between parents and children whilst they learn how to play and develope their ‘throw’ for Hookey and quoits.
